Tibetan Buddhism Mahamudra teaching. I was on a course this lama had in Norway in 1995. This was over three and a half year after i meet buddhism on a backpacker tour that should go to China, HongKong, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia and maybe to other places. The tour was going to ther countries instead because when we was in China I saw some pictures in my China travelbook from a place with name Tibet and I wanted to see some castles that I saw pictures of in the book. The castles was named temples. I had never heard about Tibet or buddhism this time. My friend did not wanted to travel to Tibet because he wanted to try to find work in Hong Kong for some months because he had heard that it was easy to find work there and earn more money to travel for and then we could travel a very long time. I wanted to see this castle before we go to Hong Kong and we did that and in Tibet we did a bus tour with other backpackers from Yak Hotel. Then we saw a lot of places in Tibet in a 14 day tour with bus. The other backpackers wanted to go to Nepal after Tibet and we changed plans and followed them to Kathmandu in Nepal instead of going to Hong Kong after China. And after we had been in Nepal in one month we travel to India instead of Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia and Australia. We was in India in over two months and Bangladesh in 3 weeks. In India we travel down to Calcutta first and from there to Bangladesh and back to India. On the way from Nepal to Calcutta we had to stop because ...

Forced labour was used in its construction. About 180000 Asian labourers and 60000 Allied prisoners of war (POWs) worked on the railway. Of these, around 90000 Asian labourers and 16000 Allied POWs died as a direct result of the project. The dead POWs included 6318 British personnel, 2815 Australians, 2490 Dutch, about 356 Americans and a smaller number of Canadians. A railway route between Thailand and Burma had been surveyed at the beginning of the 20th century, by the British government of Burma, but the proposed course of the line — through hilly jungle terrain divided by many rivers — was considered too difficult to complete. In 1942, Japanese forces invaded Burma from Thailand and seized it from British control. To maintain their forces in Burma, the Japanese had to bring supplies and troops to Burma by sea, through the Strait of Malacca and the Andaman Sea. This route was vulnerable to attack by Allied submarines, and a different means of transport was needed. The obvious alternative was a railway. The Japanese started the project in June 1942. They intended to connect Ban Pong with Thanbyuzayat, through the Three Pagodas Pass. Construction started at the Thai end on 22 June 1942 and in Burma at roughly ...

Baby Born Onboard Flight KU411 Last October, I went with my mom to the Philippines to visit family and friends. We took the Kuwait Airways flight which left Bangkok at around noon. There were only a few passengers onboard that particular flight, mostly OFW (Overseas Filipino Workers) from Kuwait going back home for the 'All Souls Day'. My mom and I were both prepared to take a short nap, hoping that by the time the stewardess served food we would be refreshed. Just as soon as the plane took off, I noticed some commotion over at the front, just around 10 rows away from where we were seated. A cabin crew -- later we learned he was the purser -- seemed troubled. He went back and forth between the cockpit and the passenger. I sensed that something seriously wrong must be happening over there. Just minutes after the plane was steady and the 'fasten seatbelts' light went off, the captain announced for any physicians onboard. When I looked around and saw that no one did anything, I turned to my mom who was half asleep. She practiced nursing years ago before she switched to teaching kindergarten kids English. If there weren't any doctors onboard, then my mom could at least dig up the theories and skills from the rusty parts of her memory and put it to good use. My mom got up and went over to the passenger, informing the cabin crew that she was a nurse and asked if there is anything she could do to help. It turned out that a pregnant 23-year-old woman was in labor!! Four nurses ...
