I wrote this song as a tribute to Merle Haggard after to listening to his album DRINKIN' (from a box set that includes the albums CHEATIN' and HURTIN" and PRISON) - hence the country twang and subject matter! The Lost Dog Saloon referred to in the song is a pub located in Chaloklam village on Koh Phangan island in southern Thailand where I live owned by my good friend Colonel Dave Ashby (USMC, Ret.) where excellent conversation, food and drink are always available.
